In 1779, Captain John Paul Jones stood on the deck of his ship, the Bonhomme Richard. In one of the earliest moments that would live forever in the history of the United States Navy, Jones cried out, “I have not yet begun to fight!” in response to the British asking him if he wished to surrender. Since then, several men and women have served the Navy at home and abroad with distinction and professionalism. On October 13th we celebrate the birth of this all too important branch of the United States military. There are many ways in which you can help celebrate this important day.
